About

Rigorous. Accessible.

Verified facts, human stories, and relationship as the starting point.

Our mission

Understanding racism as a system, and answering it through relationship.

The Daily Ubuntu aims to make these questions clear and accessible, with verified facts. Ubuntu names injustice but refuses resignation: change is possible if we preserve the bond between us.

Four focus areas

What we work on.

The system

Seeing how rules and habits create inequality, even without ill intent.

Justice

Clear reference points to recognize an injustice and name it.

Ubuntu

An African philosophy of relationship: each person exists through others.

Action

Concrete gestures, because understanding only matters if we act.

Quebec today

Institutions have acknowledged it. It is up to us to carry on.

142calls to action from the Viens Commission, which found it “impossible to deny” systemic discrimination against First Nations and Inuit (2019)
4 to 5×more likely to be stopped by Montreal police for Black and Indigenous people (2019 report)
38recommendations from the OCPM, calling on Montreal to recognize systemic racism (2020)

Our approach

Every story, in four movements.

A scene

An ordinary moment, told simply, in which anyone can recognize themselves.

A documented case

A public fact, dated and sourced: a report, a study, a decision.

A voice

Words that ring true, from a thinker, a witness or an institution.

A question

Never a conclusion: an invitation to look at your own “us.”
